Abstract: There has been an increasing amount of research into blockchain when blockchain is receiving increasing enthusiasm from both the practitioners and scholars. It has been revolutionary in bringing trustless computing and immutable decentralized ledgering of digital assets and transactions to businesses, organizations, and individuals. The decentralized nature of blockchain-based systems and applications eliminates intermediaries, saves costs, and enhances efficiencies. In its infancy, blockchain demonstrates great disruptive potentials in many areas such as finance, healthcare, education, and real estate among others. This research presents the conceptualization of blockchain-based applications from the Information Systems perspective. The concepts of blockchain, smart contract, ICO, Dapps, DAOs, DAC, DAS, and AM are discussed and analyzed. The technical background and social perspectives of the blockchain based applications are discussed and analyzed as well. The paper contributes to a framework of blockchain level from the Information Systems perspective.
