Abstract: Despite a consensus that the use of health information technology should lead to more efficient, safer, and higher-quality care, there are no reliable estimates of the prevalence of adoption and physician usage of electronic health records (EHRs). Data from the American Hospital Association was examined for the presence of specific electronic-recorded functionalities. We also examined the differences in implementation and usage of EHRs to specific hospital characteristics.
