Abstract: Information technology professionals have been developing systems for over 50 years. Despite this wealth of experience, numerous problems continue to face software developers on the road to a successful implementation. In this paper, the authors examine how the use of social media systems and technologies could aid in the successful implementation of information systems. This is done by reviewing the systems development literature to identify the success factor addressing common problems that face software development teams, and on the use of social media. Then, the paper examines the social media systems that are available and shows how these social media systems could be used to alleviate the problems faced by software developers.
